Believe it or not, if you didn’t have an indoor coil, your air conditioner wouldn’t be able to keep you cool during a hot Chattanooga summer! An evaporator coil contains the indoor coil, and it is required for an air conditioning system to work. An air conditioner compresses refrigerant which condenses the gas into a chilled liquid. The chilled refrigerant is then pumped inside to the indoor coil. The fan motor in the furnace pulls warm air from the home and forces it through the chilled coil. Heat energy is transferred from the air to the refrigerant, and the conditioned air is distributed back into the home.
A coil is efficient when it’s clean. Although there is a filter that sits before the furnace, most filters still let a certain amount of dirt through. Additionally, mold loves to grow in the dark, damp interior of the coil. A UV lamp installed inside the coil helps kill efficiency robbing mold, protecting not only your cooling efficient, but air quality as well!
*If you do not use a furnace to heat your home, then instead of an evaporator coil you will have a fan coil which is the combination of the fan motor from a furnace, and the indoor coil from the evaporator coil.
